Francisco Gerino “Cisco” Laqui was born in Denver, Colorado, on June 12, 2009. At the age of five, he moved to Sacramento, California, where he was raised by his grandmother, father, stepmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Cisco was introduced to the Sweet Science of boxing by his uncle when he was six years old. He loved the sport and began his initial training in his uncle’s garage, learning the basic fundamentals of boxing, including conditioning, footwork, angles, and, most importantly, the mindset and discipline needed to be a champion.
At the age of eight, Cisco became a licensed boxer through USA Boxing and began formal training at Battle-Fit Gym in Brentwood, King’s Boxing Gym in Oakland, and eventually found his home at Caballero’s Boxing Gym in Sacramento.
Cisco’s amateur boxing record was eight wins and one loss, which included becoming a Junior Olympic Champion. His goals were to represent the USA in the Olympics and become a World Champion Boxer.
In July 2023, after graduating from junior high school, Cisco went to live with his maternal mother in Denver, Colorado. On April 13, 2024, at the young age of fourteen, Cisco’s dreams were shattered when he was cowardly shot in the back of the head at a home in Lakewood, Colorado.
Cisco was in a coma and deemed brain dead by doctors. Nevertheless, he continued to fight for his life. On April 19, 2024, Cisco heard the final bell ring and succumbed to his injuries, passing away peacefully. His death left behind shattered dreams, broken hearts, and the never-ending, never-answered question: “Why?”
Although Cisco will never achieve his dreams, he leaves behind his legacy: the Cisco’s Dream Fund Scholarship. This fund will assist other youth boxers pursuing the dreams of becoming an Olympian, a World Champion Boxer, or just being part of a boxing family where they can feel safe.
On May 28, 2024, Cisco became a real-life hero. Donor Alliance notified us that Cisco’s organs helped save the lives of five individuals, giving them a second chance at life. God put Cisco on this earth to save people, and for everyone he touched, he will be forever loved and missed.
CISCO FOREVER – FOREVER CISCO.
